Five Fast Ways to Improve Your Smile

cosmetic dental and implants Rockwall

Do you have a special event coming up? Perhaps a wedding, graduation, milestone birthday, anniversary, or reunion? These celebrations usually involve a lot of photographs and, of course, you want to look nice. You may not have time to lose 20 pounds, but you can significantly transform your smile with cosmetic dentistry.

Here are five cosmetic dental procedures that can usually be performed in one office visit.

1. Veneers
Porcelain veneers have been a successful treatment for decades but we never fail to be amazed by the outstanding results they deliver. A veneer is a super-thin layer of porcelain bonded permanently to the tooth. A veneer can cover a chip, hide a crack, make discoloration disappear, or fix a misshapen tooth.

2. Gum Contouring
Perhaps your teeth are beautiful and healthy but you have a gumline that is too low or too high and detracts from the presentation. Gum contouring can reshape the gumline and perfect your smile. Book a consultation with dentist Williamson today for an intensive examination and savvy guidance regarding your gumline.

3. Enamel Shaping
Just one slightly misshapen tooth can downgrade the characteristics of a smile even if all the other teeth have a pleasing appearance. (Your mouth is no place for a sore thumb, right?) Let dentist Williamson reshape the tooth so it blends in seamlessly.

4. Bonding
Dental bonding just gets better and better as additional advanced materials are developed. Bonding is used in a multitude of applications to fix teeth with cosmetic and structural issues. The newest prep processes are minimally invasive – leaving you with more of your own tooth structure.

5. Teeth Whitening
Make your smile pop with professional in-office teeth whitening. There is nothing like an outstanding white smile to give you complete confidence.

Cosmetic dentistry is an investment that will bless you with increased confidence every day. We look forward to getting your smile ready for all those hugs, laughs, and, of course, pictures.

How Does Your Overall Health Affect Your Smile?

Educating Rockwall Dental Patients About Little-Known Risks Hi! I’m dentist Karen Williamson, DDS. Most every day, I can be found at my Rockwall dental practice treating dental patients with tooth and gum problems or helping patients prevent them. There are many common medical conditions that pose a risk to oral health.

1) Rockwall diabetes patients with high blood glucose often have a higher risk of dental issues. If you have diabetes, let’s talk. My number is 469-402-0024.

2) A persistent dry mouth due to an inadequate amount of saliva can accelerate tooth decay, cause or contribute to gum disease, and trigger chronic bad breath. Many medications used by thousands of Royse City and Backland folks, including those for high blood pressure and depression, cause dry mouth. This side effect is not only unpleasant, but it is also dangerous. Anti-depressants (especially SSRI’s) and antipsychotic drugs can also trigger tooth-grinding (bruxism).

3) Acid reflux in children and adults is associated with a host of dental problems such as decay and periodontal disease.

I help many Heath, McLendon-Chisholm dental patients prevent problems associated with medical conditions that sometimes seem unrelated to dental health. Regular professional dental care is essential for oral health and an important part of your overall physical health.

porcelain crown Rockwall

When dentist Karen Williamson crowns one of our patients, the coronation is a celebration of a stronger smile.

The necessity of a dental crown is usually readily apparent. Based on how much tooth is available to hold in a filling, sometimes a crown is required to add more support and to keep the tooth from falling apart or breaking. Crowns are also necessary as a sturdy support for dental bridges.

A crown restores your tooth to normal shape, size and strength, and allows it to resume its proper place as a team player with the other teeth.

Karen E Williamson D.D.S., P.A, located at 560 W Ralph Hall Pkwy, Rockwall, TX in Rockwall, Texas 75032, opened their doors in 1993 and has been serving patients throughout Texas with extraordinary efficiency, expertise and personal attention since 1993. You could be our next royal to smile and wave for the paparazzi.

Consult with dentist Williamson to find out if you are a candidate for advanced restorative procedures meant to increase the life of your precious permanent teeth such as a fabulous crown. Keep in mind that crowns come in a variety of strong, reliable materials. Matching the natural color of your teeth increases the beauty of your smile. Gold crowns are incredibly strong and have the “bling” factor. But there are certainly other options.

In addition to restorative services, we would love to talk to you about cleanings, cosmetic services, teeth whitening, braces, veneers, and other smile makeover possibilities.

We are equipped to offer restorative dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, orthodontics, porcelain veneers, and a long list of other procedures. Schedule your visit today with our friendly staff at 469-402-0024.

A crown can return your tooth to all its former glory as a smiling, glowing, expert chewing machine.

5 Tools For Tooth Transformations

porcelain veneers price Rockwall

Too-small teeth. Misshapen teeth. Cracked teeth. Chipped teeth. Spacing irregularities. These problems are all-too-common. But you don’t have to live with them! With the advances in cosmetic dentistry, there are fixes for these vexing tooth issues!

1. Veneers. (Also called dental laminates or porcelain veneers). These extremely thin shells are custom-made so the size, shape, and color are perfectly matched to your surrounding teeth. The veneers are securely cemented to the front of the teeth to dramatically improve your smile.

2. Bonding. This procedure uses a strong tooth-colored resin to close spaces, correct chips and cracks, or change the shape. The resin is molded into place and then a light is applied to harden the material for secure adherence to the tooth.

3. Recontouring. Minimally-invasive reshaping of a tooth by removing tiny bits of enamel to improve the shape or length. This cosmetic dentistry procedure is sometimes called odontoplasty or slenderizing.

4. Crowns. Most people are familiar with this durable multi-purpose restoration. Natural-looking dental crowns are fabricated in the shape and color of the tooth and cemented into place to fully cover the part of the tooth visible above the gumline.

5. Braces. Patients of all ages are transforming their smiles with revolutionary orthodontia. Before you dismiss this option as too time-consuming or pricey, learn about the new braces now available. Braces are more convenient and discrete than ever before.

Filtered Rockwall Water And Oral Health

Filtered Rockwall Water And Oral Health

A simple way for Rockwall residents to choose beverages that won’t harm their teeth is to keep it simple and make water their go-to drink. However, for safety, thrift, and convenience, many dental patients choose to drink bottled water or filter it themselves at home.

Filtered water can be detrimental to oral health if it doesn’t contain fluoride, which is a great tooth decay preventer.

If you choose bottled water and are wondering if any naturally occurring fluoride has been removed, you can check the label. If you prefer to filter your own tap water, look to see if the American Dental Association has given the filter its seal of approval.

Water filters that carry the ADA seal don’t remove fluoride, so you can be sure that the fluoride is still in your water and benefitting your teeth.

Do You Eat A Smile-Healthy Diet?

Rockwall teeth bleaching best price

Today’s post explains how specific foods and eating habits impact our teeth.

The Sugar Problem
Sugars get converted by bacteria in the mouth to acids. It is the acids that begin to assault enamel and initiate decay for individuals of all ages. Fruits have high water content which can dilute the effects of the sugars they contain and get the saliva flowing so they aren’t really worthy of banishment. It’s the chocolate bars, hard candies, cookies, cakes and pies that are.

Acidic Food Coupling
Oranges, tomatoes, lemons and the like should be eaten as part of a meal to minimize the acidic effects. It is wise to eat a variety of healthy foods such as cheeses, chicken, other meats, nuts and milk. The calcium and phosphorus will advance tooth remineralization.

Timing of Meals
The more frequently you eat the more often your teeth are subject to the decay process. This can be eased by choosing healthy snacks. And keep in mind, the later at night you eat the more likely you are to not only eat unhealthy foods but to skip oral hygiene altogether.

I’m Karen Williamson, DDS at Karen E Williamson D.D.S., P.A. 5 Smile Makeover Questions For Rockwall Smiles

How Much Does A Smile Makeover Cost In Rockwall

If you are considering a multi-procedure cosmetic dental smile makeover or extensive restorative dental work, here are four considerations:

All At Once Or Over Time?
At Karen E Williamson D.D.S., P.A, our smile makeover patients can often receive several (or all) procedures in one visit. It all depends on the specific procedures necessary to achieve your perfect smile. dentist Karen Williamson develops a unique treatment plan for each patient after an extensive consultation and examination.

Oral Sedation?
Many cosmetic dental patients benefit from sedation dentistry. Conscious sedation is especially helpful for procedures such as multiple wisdom teeth extractions and dental implant placement.

Cost?
We know that cosmetic dentistry is a substantial investment for most Rockwall dental patients. Some services are covered by dental plans, so if you have dental insurance, be sure to find out exactly what is covered. Many residents use flex spending accounts for dental work and reap the tax advantages.

Healing Time?
With the latest materials and cosmetic dental techniques, healing times are often minimal. However, some treatments such as bone grafting, soft tissue grafting, root canals, and dental implants often require a short healing period. Consider how the timing of your dental visits and the required healing periods will affect your job and family responsibilities.

Aesthetic Results?
At Karen E Williamson D.D.S., P.A in Rockwall our patients experience terrific results when doing smile transformations in phases, however, porcelain restorations are best fabricated in the same ‘batch’ for the most precise color matching.

Call Karen E Williamson D.D.S., P.A today at 469-402-0024 to schedule a no-pressure cosmetic dental consultation.

Wear A Crown In Rockwall

Wear A Crown In Rockwall

Dental crowns are among the restorative procedures we use most at Karen E. Williamson DDS PA in Rockwall. Crowns restore and protect a tooth that has been damaged, or had dental work. Each crown is custom-made to fit the tooth it is for.

This type of crown is sometimes called a “cap” because of the way they fit over the tooth. The purpose of the crown is to restore the tooth’s shape and size, and also its functionality. Once the crown is cemented into place it completely covers the visible portion of the tooth.

Some of the reasons we place a crown over a tooth:

  • It may have been badly chipped or broken
  • There may be a cavity too big to fill
  • A restoration after a root canal
  • Discoloration, or a similar cosmetic reason

When a crown is used as a restoration there is usually a temporary one before the final one. The temporary is used to protect the tooth while the permanent crown is made in a dental lab. A temporary crown is, of course, not as strong as a permanent crown, and patients need to be aware of that.

At Karen E. Williamson DDS PA in Rockwall we offer CEREC same-day crowns. Patients come to our practice from Royse City, Backland, Heath, and Fate for crowns and other restorative dentistry, and much more. Call our office to schedule an appointment today!
